The 70-year-old Avondale Heights woman went into a toilet block in a car park on Grantham Street about 4am where two men set upon her.

One strangled her with his hands and demanded her mobile phone and money.

When the woman refused, the two men brought her to the ground and kicked and punched her.

She sustained significant bruising, swelling and a laceration to the face that required hospital treatment.

The men stole four rings, three bracelets and a gold necklace from the woman before fleeing the scene.

Several of the items had great sentimental value, including her wedding ring, a 50-year wedding anniversary ring, and other significant gifts that she had owned for decades.

Police are appealing for the offenders to come forward.

One is described as having a moustache and wearing a black hooded jumper.
