Council has completed a $400,000 upgrade to Kurung Drive Reserve in Kings Park, which is now open to the public.

Council is also improving another three parks, with upgrades of $100,000 each completed in Eurora/Koroit Place Reserve Taylors Lakes and Ashton Avenue Reserve, St Albans. Another park upgrade in O’Connors Paddock, Cairnlea will soon be completed.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Lucinda Congreve said the improvements were part of Council’s award-winning Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan, which ensures access to a range of flagship, suburban, neighbourhood and local parks across Brimbank.

“Great parks are good for our physical and mental health, they help build connections by providing a shared space for children – and their parents, grandparents and families – to play and explore together.

“Parks also provide spaces to exercise and to relax – as well as improving neighbourhood character and helping to protect our environment,” Cr Congreve said.

Kurung Drive Reserve, Ashton Avenue Reserve and Eurora/Koroit Place Reserve are now open to the public – with O’Connors Paddock expected to open within weeks.

Additional trees have been planted at Ashton Avenue and Euroa reserves – with more trees to be planted in Kurung Drive Reserve and O’Connors Paddock during the 2019 planting season.

The upgrades include:

  • Kurung Drive Reserve, Kings Park

combined basketball and netball court, soccer/rugby post, space to kick a ball, play equipment (including a triple swing, giant swing, spinner, and rocker), nature play area, maze, fitness station, a large shelter, picnic area, BBQ, drinking fountain, and 77 trees (to be planted later this year)

  • Ashton Avenue Reserve, St Albans

swing, play unit with two slides, 15 new trees, picnic seats, and rocker

  • Eurora/Koroit Place Reserve, Taylors Lakes

swing, play unit with two slides, rocker, shelter, 27 new trees, picnic shelter, and drinking fountain

  • O’Connors Paddock, Cairnlea

Since Creating Better Parks was adopted in 2008, Council has invested almost $32 million upgrading and creating 105 parks.

“Council’s award winning Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan is breathing new life into parks across Brimbank – ensuring that everyone can access high quality parks and playgrounds,” Cr Congreve said.
