Events will be held across Victoria to showcase that more than ever, the skills needed for jobs in high-demand are taught by TAFE and training providers.

To make it easier for Victorians to get the training they need to get a job the Andrews Labor Government has launched two new online tools for people looking to re-skill or change careers.

Skills Switch and Career Switch will support students, retrenched workers and those seeking a career change to identify occupations into which they can readily transfer, and the required skills and qualifications.

Career Switch supports people looking for a career change by building on the skills they already have. The tool works by using users’ existing occupations to identify alternatives in which they can transfer into based on industry, field of education, skill level and wages.

Skills Switch helps prospective students determine whether the skills they have gained from a previous TAFE and training qualification are likely to count towards a new course.

The tools also support users by identifying occupation demand and labour market conditions as well as qualification and licencing requirements for each occupation.

Through the 2018/19 Victorian State Budget, the Victorian Government is providing an additional $644 million to ensure all Victorians can access the training they need to get a job and share in Victoria’s prosperity, and to address skills shortages before they put a brake on the state’s economy.

To make it easier to access training, the Government is investing $172 million to make 30 priority TAFE courses and 20 pre-apprenticeship courses that lead to jobs that are most in demand from Victorian employers tuition free.
