Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan today visited Camp Hill Primary School in Bendigo to announce the $24 million funding boost, which includes $250,000 towards upgrading Camp Hill Primary’s heritage-listed roof.

The Planned Maintenance Program provides targeted funding to schools for specific buildings and infrastructure in the poorest condition. The funding is used by schools to replace, refurbish and demolish school buildings which are not up to standard.

Opened in 1878, Camp Hill Primary School’s large size and central position in Rosalind Park means it is one of Bendigo’s most prominent buildings.

It’s distinctive style makes it an important example of the work of architect Henry Bastow. His designs for hundreds of schools and other public works made him one of Melbourne’s most influential architects.

This latest investment to repair Camp Hill Primary’s roof follows $49,000 in maintenance funding in this year’s Budget to remove trees in poor condition and replace the school’s fence along the front boundary.

Victoria’s school building boom has delivered more than 1,000 school upgrades and 56 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
