Level Crossing Removals To Improve Carrum Traffic Flow

Works have begun on the new Station Street bridge over the Patterson River that will slash travel times for local communities.

The extension of McLeod Road under the new rail line will have new traffic lights to get people onto the Nepean Highway quickly and safely.

Traffic flow will be improved at the corner of Armstrongs Road and the Nepean Highway in Seaford to improve safety and congestion at this intersection. The existing pedestrian signals will be configured to help Armstrongs road traffic enter the Nepean Highway safely in both directions.

The removal of 13 level crossings on the Frankston Line and the Metro Tunnel will allow for more trains more often on the Frankston line.

These extra services will be supported by moving stabling to Kananook, where there will be room to park 24 trains, compared to just six trains at the existing depot in Carrum.

The Victorian Liberals’ commitment to scrap the project will stop these extra Frankston line services from running.  A potential future extension of the Frankston train line to Baxter will still require this stabling at Kananook.

The Liberals have opposed the removal of level crossings and have even committed to re-opening the level crossing at Eel Race Road, putting the safety of locals at risk.

The Labor Government is investing $2 billion in the Frankston line to improve reliability and run more trains, more often.  The investment will create over 2000 jobs removing 13 level crossings, upgrading signalling and power and building 10 stations, including those recently opened at Southland, Ormond, McKinnon and Bentleigh.
