Brimbank Mayor Cr Lucinda Congreve said the Keilor Downs Urban Design Framework 2018 established design principles that would guide future development of the centre – including public and private land.

“This framework will help to ensure that future development enhances connections in this centre – particularly for people who choose to walk or cycle around the area.

“Keilor Downs Activity Centre has many features that attract a range of users and activities – including shopping, leisure and community centres, a playground and skate park – yet many of these wonderful features are disconnected.

“Council’s vision is to improve connections within the Keilor Downs Activity Centre and create a popular and inviting neighbourhood activity centre with vibrant streets and public spaces,” Cr Congreve said.

The framework provides guidelines for revitalisation of the centre, and includes concepts for the development of a new north-south “main street”, a restored public plaza and improvements to the surrounding landscape and public realm.

The framework calls for high quality cycling and walking connections that will tie into the future Health and Wellbeing Hub on the St Albans Leisure Centre site.

The Keilor Downs Activity Centre is nominated as a Neighbourhood Activity Centre in Plan Melbourne, the State Government’s Metropolitan Planning Strategy.

Council adopted the Keilor Downs Urban Design Framework 2018 following consultation, including feedback from the community.

“Thank you all those who took the time to review the draft framework and provide feedback – your input is very much appreciated,” Cr Congreve said.
