Brimbank City Council is calling on community members to be part of a new Collective Action Committee to help address these important issues.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said the establishment of the Brimbank Collective Action Committee will help to lead and initiate projects to bring about better health and wellbeing outcomes.
“The Committee will be involved in identifying local projects and working together on actions that will make a real difference to improve health and social outcomes within the Brimbank community.
“Council has already identified an opportunity as we move towards designing and constructing the Health and Wellbeing Hub that will replace the St Albans Leisure Centre.
“There are possibilities to identify short term projects and community driven actions to start tackling difficult health and social issues through this project.
“There’s a range of health and social issues to be considered such as early childhood vulnerability, social isolation, obesity, physical inactivity, or diabetes.
“I encourage community members to put in an Expression of Interest if they’re interested in being part of this Committee,” Cr Congreve said.
Committee members will be selected for their expertise, lived experience, or interest in improving the social and health outcomes of the Brimbank community.
The Committee will act in an advisory capacity to Council, will be guided by Council’s values and behaviours, comply with Council’s Employee Code of Conduct and accept the Terms of Reference.
Participation in the Committee is on an honorary basis.
An information session will be held at the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre, 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine on Wednesday 30 January 2019 at 10am.
Interested community members are required to express their interest by completing an application form available on Council’s website brimbank.vic.gov.au
A form can be submitted online, or hard copy forms can be posted to: Collective Action Committee, Growing Brimbank Program Facilitator, PO Box 70, Sunshine 3020; or emailed to collectiveaction@brimbank.vic.gov.au. Applications close Friday 1 February 2019.
