Brimbank welcomes Federal Opposition support for St Albans pool replacement project

Mr Shorten visited St Albans Leisure Centre on Wednesday 14 November with Member for Eastern Victoria, Mr Daniel Mulino MLC who will run for the seat of Fraser at the next Federal Election.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said Council was thrilled to have the opportunity to talk with Mr Shorten and Mr Mulino about Council’s plans to replace the leisure centre with a world-class health and wellbeing hub.

“We’ve been working extremely hard to make sure this project attracts the attention and support it deserves from our state and federal counterparts.

“We took this opportunity to talk with Mr Shorten and Mr Mulino about the project, to show them both around the centre, and to be very clear about the financial investment we’re seeking from the State and Federal governments.

“Mr Shorten acknowledged our proposition was well thought out and affordable, and that they were preparing election bids and would now go back and ‘crunch the numbers’,” Cr Congreve said.

Brimbank’s planned health and wellbeing hub will cost in excess of $53 million to build.

“We know this project is worthy of significant investment from Council, and we know it’s deserving of significant investment from the state and federal governments.

“There’s enormous potential for the Federal Government to be a major partner in the health and wellbeing hub and we know the future federal representative from the seat of Fraser will have a vital role to play in championing this project on the national stage,” the Mayor said.
