Concept plans for the next two stages of upgrades at the park will be on display for community members to provide their input directly to Council.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr John Hedditch said Council is keen for community members take the opportunity to speak with Council about future plans for the popular park.

“The Lakes Reserve is one of six flagship parks in Brimbank’s park network.

“This consultation has been planned so that community members can comment and provide suggestions directly to Council on the next stages of the development of The Lakes Reserve, including the preferred location for a future bridge.

“Come along, take a look at the concept plans and let us know what you think. We’ve also arranged a community barbecue and entertainment for the kids,” Cr Hedditch said.

Initial upgrades at The Lakes Reserve took place in 2009 and 2011 and included the installation of the main playground structure and other play equipment. Other additions included picnic facilities; shelters; barbecue facilities; two jetties which extend over the lake; a new entrance and paths; extensive tree planting; and new toilets.

Stage two is proposed over two financial years from 2018/2019 to 2019/2020, with Stage 3 scheduled for 2021/2022, subject to future budget approval.

The proposed works are based on the approved 2008 masterplan for The Lakes Reserve.

Since 2008, Council has upgraded 93 parks and spent about $23million transforming Brimbank’s park network.

The Lakes Reserve consultation event will be held on Saturday 22 April from 11am to 1pm at The Lakes Reserve, corner Chichester Drive and Panamuna Avenue.
