The men – aged 44, 42, 27, 26 and 21- were served with court attendance notices by the AFP on Wednesday, 24 January 2018.

Four of the men will face charges relating to alleged tobacco importation offences, while one man will face charges for allegedly dealing with an instrument of crime (money worth $100,000 or more).

Operation Veyda commenced in mid-2016, targeting organised crime groups attempting to import large quantities of drugs and tobacco into Australia.

Another 13 people are currently before Australian courts in connection with this investigation.

In addition to the activity by the AFP on 24 January, a further four men who are currently before the courts in relation to this operation have been served with notice of additional charges.

The men – aged 35, 29, 27, and 25 – will be charged at their next court appearance with a variety of offences. These include Commonwealth-based dealing with the proceeds of crime offences, and NSW legislation-based possession of prohibited drug and weapon offences.

Investigations into Operation Veyda remain ongoing and further activity by the AFP cannot be ruled out.
